See . , , . . H. C. Martin. Want Th' Appoint, Confirmed. Washington, Feb. 2. Tele grams and letters from Demo crats of Elizabeth City, . asking Senators Simmons and Overman to have Frank M. Grice, recent ly appointed postmaster at Eliz abeth City by President Taft, confirmed, are pouring into Washington. This attempt to have an ap pointee of the out-going Presi dent confirmed is so unusual that the case is attracting Nation wide attention. The Republican members of the Senate have been trying for more than a month to get the Senate to confirm about 1,300 of Mr. Taft's nominees. Demo cratic leaders have refused to let confirmation be made. One of the most spirited filibusters of years is raging over that very proposition. In the midst of this contro versy North Carolina comes for ward with a man that leading Democrats would confirm. A mong those who wired the Sen ators to act is former Judge George W. Ward. The confir mation of Grice would open a flood gate that no one could shut until the North Carolina slate before the Senate is clean. If Grice is to have a full term as postmaster he will have to get the endorsement of Repre sentative Small and Senator Simmons and the ap)Kintment from President Wilson. Mr. Small is not in favor of Grice, and will recommend another man at the proper time.
